Field notes.

Investigates how the body communicates after neurological trauma, tracing the unstable relationship between sensation, perception, and language.

Field notes.

is an ongoing artist newspaper exploring how personal experiences intersect with broader questions of identity, memory, migration, disability, care, and belonging. Combining writing, photography, and graphic design, the project considers how publishing can become a form of artistic exchange, creating opportunities for connection, participation, and access beyond traditional exhibition spaces.

Rooted in my lived experiences as an Indigenous person, immigrant, and disabled artist, Field Notes brings together personal histories and collective experiences to question the social, cultural, and political structures that shape our understanding of the world. Each edition responds to a particular theme, using the newspaper as both an artistic medium and a way to share perspectives often excluded from conventional cultural narratives.

Art as Free Exchange

What happens when an artwork is created to be given away rather than sold? How can free access create new opportunities for connection, exchange, and participation?

Central to Field notes. is the decision to distribute each newspaper free of charge. By removing the financial barrier of purchase, the project questions conventional ideas about artistic value, ownership, and accessibility.

The newspaper becomes something readers can receive, keep, and share freely. Its physical format lets readers engage with the work at their own pace, return to it over time, and pass it on. In this way, the artwork continues to circulate beyond the exhibition space, reaching people who may never encounter the original project.

Personal and Collective Histories

Field notes. draws upon personal experiences as a way of examining larger social and political structures. Indigenous identity, migration, disability, and belonging are approached not as separate subjects but as interconnected ways of understanding and questioning the world.

Through writing and visual storytelling, the project moves between individual memory and collective experience, considering how histories, borders, and systems influence our relationships with places, communities, and one another.

Field notes. #1, Between Borders

The first edition of Field notes. was created for the exhibition Between Borders at Kunsthafen in Cologne in 2026.

Bringing together three personal essays and photographs, the newspaper explores geographical, political, and bodily borders through reflections on migration, Indigenous identity, disability, and access.

Fifty copies were printed and distributed free of charge, allowing the work to move beyond the exhibition and into readers’ hands

Publishing as an Artistic Practice

The newspaper functions as both a physical artwork and an evolving publishing platform. By combining writing, photography, and graphic design, Field notes. creates a space where personal storytelling, documentation, and artistic inquiry intersect.

The format is intentionally adaptable. Each edition can take a different form depending on its subject, context, and relationship to an exhibition or participatory project.

Ongoing Inquiry

Field notes. continues to develop as a platform for artistic research, storytelling, and exchange. Future editions will respond to new themes, exhibitions, and participatory projects, allowing the newspaper’s content and form to evolve.

Across these changing contexts, the commitment to free distribution remains central, positioning accessibility not simply as a practical consideration but as an essential part of the artwork itself.
